Front Door House
noun
noun: front door; plural noun: front doors
- the main entrance to a house.”a visitor arrived at the front door”
A front door began the brief for this project.
Inside, the existing lower level flat and upper level family home were to be combined to form a robust family home with 5 bedrooms and associated living space. The lower level required new concrete retaining walls, and a complete reconfiguration inside, to provide bedrooms and living space plus a laundry and bathroom. A new entrance and stair formed a spine connecting to the upper level family area and circulation.
Significant engineering was required to form a garage with an irregular garage door, shaped to accommodate the steepness of the street, and the tricky transition into the site.
The top of this garage was clothed in a new hardwood deck, hovering above the street below.
the front door leads to a centrally-heated, double-glazed, insulated house ready for its next century.
